Charity Day in aid of QE Gateshead Charitable Funds; Breast Screening Team
On Thursday 1st April 2021 the whole school will be involved in a charity day to raise funds for QE Gateshead Charitable Funds’ Breast Screening Team. The Women’s Cancer Detection Society (WCDS) is a local Charity founded in 1964 to help local women; they have carried out pioneering work in breast screening, by running the charity screening service for nearly 20 years. From being the provider of the screening service in the early days, the charity now supports the research work of the clinic. The Gateshead Breast Screening Programme screens women living in Gateshead, South Tyneside, Durham and Sunderland.
Money generated by the charity helps to:
Provide equipment to diagnose early breast cancer
Function a state of the art biopsy system
Update ultrasound machines
Fund Breast Cancer Research; and
Support the cost of post graduate researchers
This charity is very close to our hearts and we are keen to help; we request that students donate a minimum of £1.00 for the charity and they will be allowed to attend school in non-uniform; students are also invited to ‘wear a little bit of yellow,’ if they can. We must point out that, although students are not required to wear school uniform, they must be dressed modestly and appropriately for a school environment, as is the norm on non-uniform events. Minimal make up will be allowed, but no false/acrylic nails will be allowed.
We hope that all students will take an active part in this day and raise money for this worthwhile cause.
